The 3 C’s in Life: Choice, Chance, Change

Life rarely moves forward by accident. Progress — whether personal or professional — comes down to three powerful words: Choice, Chance, and Change.

We all have moments when we want something to be different. A better career. A stronger team. More time with family. Improved health. Greater business growth. But wanting change and creating change are two very different things.

1. Choice — It Starts With a Decision

Every transformation begins with a choice.
Do you keep doing what’s comfortable, or do you step toward what’s possible?
Choices are often uncomfortable because they require us to admit something: the way things are now isn’t enough.

For individuals, that might be choosing to leave a job that drains you or commit to a new habit that will improve your life.
For businesses and organizations, it might be choosing to pivot your strategy, sunset an outdated program, or invest in new training for your team.

2. Chance — Risk Is Part of the Equation

Once you’ve made the choice, you have to take the chance.
This is the step where fear likes to show up. The “what ifs” multiply:

  • What if it doesn’t work?

  • What if I fail?

  • What if people judge me?

But here’s the reality: nothing changes without risk. You can make the choice to grow, but unless you’re willing to step into uncertainty, you’ll stay in the same place.

For organizations, taking the chance might mean launching a new product before it feels perfect, entering a new market, or experimenting with a different business model.

3. Change — The Inevitable Result of Courage

Choice and chance set the stage. Change is the result.
It doesn’t happen instantly, and it doesn’t always unfold exactly as planned, but every meaningful shift in life or business is born from those first two steps.

Change is where the discomfort of risk transforms into the reward of growth. It’s the new job you love, the healthier lifestyle you’ve committed to, the thriving business you’ve built, or the stronger team you’ve developed.

The Bottom Line

You can’t have change without first making a choice and taking a chance.

If you’re waiting for the “right time,” know this: it will never feel perfectly safe. But the alternative — staying exactly where you are — comes with its own cost.

So ask yourself today:

  • What choice do I need to make?

  • What chance am I willing to take?

  • What change am I ready to create?

Because your next chapter isn’t written by luck. It’s written by the decisions you make and the risks you’re willing to take to see them through.

I love working with individuals and teams to help them make choices, take chances and create the change they want. Let me know if you want to chat about how 2026 might look differently for you and your business or organization!
