There is Gold in Every Piece of Your Story

I picked up a small card at Magnolia in Waco, Texas, and the message on it got me thinking:

“There is gold in every piece of your story.”

And I’ll be honest…

That’s not always how we see our story.

We’re quick to recognize the good parts.

The wins.
The progress.
The moments we’re proud of.

But there are other parts, too.

The hard seasons.
The unexpected turns.
The parts that involve people we love—and the challenges that come with that.

Sometimes it looks like:

  • Walking alongside someone you care about through addiction

  • Navigating a difficult relationship

  • Trying your best in a situation where you don’t have all the answers

  • Or just holding it together in a season that feels overwhelming

And those are the parts we tend to think…

There’s no gold in that.

But here’s what I’ve learned over time from my own hard pieces of my story:

The gold is not always in the moment.

Sometimes the gold is in what it builds in you.

Those experiences begin to shape things like:

  • Patience

  • Strength

  • Understanding

  • Perspective

  • Compassion

You begin to see people differently.
You begin to respond differently.
You begin to show up with a depth that can’t be taught—it has to be lived.

And that’s where the gold starts to show up.

One of the biggest traps we fall into is comparison.

We look at someone else’s story and think:

  • “Theirs is harder than mine.”

  • “Theirs matters more.”

  • “Mine isn’t that significant.”

But gold isn’t measured that way.

It’s not about whose story is bigger.

It’s about what your story has built in you.

So instead of asking:

Why did that happen?

Try asking:

What did that build in me?

Because chances are…

The very thing you’ve been overlooking
is the exact thing someone else needs from you.

There is gold in your story.

All of it.
