A Purse, a Pebble, and a Purpose: When God Shows Up in the Details
A couple of months ago, at a church meeting to launch a new capital campaign, we were invited to reflect on one of my favorite scriptures:
Ephesians 3:20 — “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
We had a prayer walk and one of the stops, we took a small, flat pebble stone and was encouraged to write that verse on it as a physical reminder. I did just that, and I slipped mine into my purse.
Time passed and honestly, I forgot it was in there—until the morning of the Connect, Learn, Share conference in early June. That morning, I decided to lighten the load in my bag (you know, the usual: receipts, random pens, notes). And there it was again—the pebble with Ephesians 3:20 written across it.
I paused. I smiled. And I left it in my purse, grateful for the reminder.
A little while later, I joined a small prayer group that met before the conference officially started. As we went around the room sharing what we were hoping for from the experience—clarity, peace, energy, encouragement—two women who had traveled to the event together spoke up. On the way there, they’d been talking about what verse they might share with the group. One had written it down. The other had only remembered the words. But when they said it out loud, I got cold chills. My friend calls these moments “God winks”.
It was the same verse.
Ephesians 3:20.
I immediately shared my story about the church event, the pebble, and how I had just seen it in my purse that very morning. We all sat there for a moment, letting it soak in. None of us could’ve planned that. But God could. And He did.
The Message for Me? Clear as a Bell.
In that moment, I felt a surge of confirmation—not just about being at that conference, but about the season I’m in, the work I’m doing, and the direction I’m headed.
That tiny pebble held a big message: God is in my business. He sees me. He’s working.
A Word for You, Too
Friend, let me encourage you:
Write it down. A verse, a word, a dream, a prayer—capture it. There’s something powerful about making it visible and tangible. You never know when God will circle it back at just the right time.
Pay attention. He speaks in what might seem like small ways—a word in a conversation, a memory stirred, a pebble in your purse. Don't miss those moments.
Trust that He’s always working. Even when you can’t see the full picture, His power is still at work within you—doing more than you could even ask or imagine.

Write them down.
Carry them forward.
Because our God? He doesn’t just work in the big moments. He shows up in the details too.
